How to transcribe a reel to text
A step-by-step guide to turning any video into a timestamped transcript, plus answers to common questions about saving and downloading them.
Three steps
-
Copy the video link
On Instagram, open the reel, tap Share and choose Copy link. The post must be public.
-
Paste it into the transcriber
Paste the link on the transcript tool and press Get transcript.
-
Copy, save or download
Copy the text straight away, or open your library to organise transcripts into collections and download several as one file.
Common questions
- How do I get the text of an Instagram reel?
- Open the reel, tap Share and copy the link, then paste it into the transcriber and press Get transcript. The spoken words come back as plain text with timestamps.
- Does the video have to be public?
- Yes. Private accounts and removed posts cannot be read, so make sure the link opens in a browser where you are not logged in.
- How long does a transcript take?
- Roughly one second of processing for every six seconds of video. Most reels finish in ten to thirty seconds.
- How long a video can I transcribe?
- There is no hard limit. Long videos are processed as background jobs, so you can leave the page open while they finish.
- Can I keep transcripts organised by topic?
- After a transcript is ready, save it into a collection you name yourself, like Marketing or Business — the same idea as Instagram collections. Everything stays in your browser.
- Can I download several transcripts at once?
- Open a collection, tick the transcripts you want, and download them as a single Markdown or plain text file with each transcript under its own heading.
- How many transcriptions do I get?
- Fifteen per day, resetting at midnight UTC. Your allowance is tied to your browser.
